Lys Hix is a counsellor for young people, children and parents. She partners parents and young people to support and steer them through difficult times.

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs for which none of us receive any training. We are not given a rule book and when problems arise, it is often hard to see the wood for the trees. Why struggle when help and support is available?

Children these days face many pressures from the media, their peers and constant testing. Life for them is fast and competitive. This can often lead even young children to suffer from depression and anxiety. Parents want to help but don't always know how. "Of course you only say that because you're my mum" is often the reply when we try to boost our children's confidence.

By learning to challenge a child's negative thoughts and turn them into positive ones, a parent can very effectively help them to change their outlook on life and increase their sense of self esteem.

Communication between children and their parents sometimes becomes difficult. In which case it can be helpful to have someone from outside look at what is happening. Often dynamics are improved by making only minor changes.

My service is focused on parents and their children from 4 to 18. It includes life coaching, child and youth counselling and therapy for young people, particularly of primary school age, in Sevenoaks, Bromley, Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding area.

I also work with young adults over 18 with issues they need to resolve.
